The Benefits Of Breath Of Fire

Breath of Fire aka agni prana is one of the most powerful breaths you can do.  It will revitalize you and fill you up completely with energy. It activates your navel chakra while creating heat inside of your body as well.

What is it?

Breath of fire is a breath in which you pull your navel point in and up on the exhale and relax and release it on the inhale.  You do it fast, rhythmically and with force. It’s normally done through the nose but can also be done through the mouth in some specialized kriyas.

Why is it so effective?

It has the ability to clear toxins from the body. It massage the internal organs. Creates heat throughout the entire body and well as pumps blood every where as well.  It strengthens the navel centre which simultaneously expanding the lungs capacity to hold the breath.  Doing this breath for a while has a strong relaxing effect on the psyche, nervous system and glandular system as well.

How long can you do it for?

That depends entirely on you. Starting with 3 minutes is great. Working yourself up to 5, 11 and 31 minutes will be perfect. Some practitioners can do this for 2.5 hours with ease. The key is to take your time and perfect the exact movement before starting to increase pace and duration of the exercise. The steady turtle wins the race, unless its going against a steady stallion.
